AKASOL delivers eight battery systems to Sanlorenzo for 32m hybrid yacht and presents innovative propulsion system E-Motion on display at Boot Duesseldorf show (Sanlorenzo booth Hall 6, A41).

European battery system manufacturer AKASOL has announced a partnership with leading yacht propulsion developer Diesel Center to deliver a new range of compact hybrid power systems (“E-Motion”) for the superyacht industry. The two companies have agreed on a distribution partnership in early 2018, initially for yacht manufacturers in Italy. In February, AKASOL will deliver eight of its high-performance AKASYSTEM 15 OEM storage systems, each capable of 150 kWp / 25 kW, to the Italian market.

The first customer for Diesel Center’s 300-kilowatt hybrid drive system is Italian firm Sanlorenzo, who will incorporate the system into its 32-meter superyacht SL 106 Hybrid project, to deliver quiet and emission-free operating. Sanlorenzo is one of Diesel Center’s most important clients. The new compact hybrid propulsion system E-Motion, which can also offer a retrofit solution due to its compact size, will be on display for the first time at the marine industry show, Boot Dusseldorf, running until January 28.

There is growing demand for hybrid propulsion systems for large motor yachts, with increased concern for decreasing emissions when docked in port cities. Advantages of the innovative compact drive system include the fact that it can be installed in existing series yachts without altering the technology space. Diesel Center with E-Motion faces this growing demand on hybrid propulsion systems.

With dimensions of just 1700 x 700 x 150mm and a weight of only 238kg per module, AKASOL’s compact battery system is a key component to the parallel hybrid drive with its permanent magnet electric motor.

AKASOL Managing Director Sven Schulz said:

"The Italian market for motor yachts like that of Sanlorenzo is very interesting for us. We are really pleased that the fresh cooperation with Diesel Center has so quickly led to the first use of our modular, durable and high-performance battery system. For us, this is an important step in establishing our solutions in the marine area."
